Northern Virginia has plentiful wooded areas where deer ticks thrive, and they can transmit Lyme disease.  Not every tick bite does that; see this link for more information.  If your child has a worrisome tick bite, please call our office or come to walk-in sick clinic.  If you remove a tick from your child and would like to have it tested, there is a private company (with which we have no affiliation) to which you can send the tick and a $75 check.  The company is called Clongen and a link to their website for tick testing is here.  We do not do tick testing in our office.
